The Stone Lover

The Stone Lover, a short bit of fantasy horror and my most recent publication, is available online at Lightspeed Magazine.com. There is also a link to a podcast of the story.

I have heard my fiction read aloud only once before, a multi-voiced reading of Secret Rider performed by Audio Saga in 1985. It seemed odd to me. I had heard the narration of that story, in my head, as cool, detached, but the Audio Saga’s narrator was warm, passionate at times, and I wasn’t sure that I liked it. I still have a copy of the audio cassette, and if I had a device that could play it I would listen again, to see if I still feel that way.

I have no problem at all with the Lightspeed podcast. The narrator, Stefan Rudnicki, reads the story with precisely the right blend of honey and poison, and I’m very grateful for that. And surprised. I did not know that an audio version was part of the publication, and am very happy that it was. Thank you, JJA!
